  1. Bethesda always struggles with this. Fallout: New Vegas had a much more 'realistic' approach to ammo. The revolvers & lever actions used rimmed catridges like the.357 and.44 magnums, auto pistols used 9mm, 10mm or.45 auto.308 was used in the hunting & battle rifle, etc. It also had a great ammo crafting setup.
  2. 10mm is an ammunition type found in Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 4, and Fallout 76.
  3. I have ton of 10mm Ammo I don't use and I am looking for some unique light weapons. I always farm mine at the National Guard Depot and get one every time. Just save outside and and wait until you get a unique 10 mm, then reload the auto save until you get the exact one you want. This is also where I get my explosive shotgun from.

A 10mm rifle would be awkward and not very lore-friendly in my opinion. Being able to turn the 10mm pistol into a sub-machine gun on the other hand would be a good idea. Fallout 2 offered a 10mm pipe rifle in the early game. The other side of the coin was: it sucked.

Before the War, the powerful 10mm Automatic round was the standard ammunition for the Bureau of Alcohol, Drugs, Tobacco, Firearms and Lasers and other federal agencies, while the military was more reliant on experimental energy weapons (although it remained the round of choice for conventional pistols and submachine guns).[1] The G brand of ammunition was one of the most popular, offering excellent centerfire cartridges for a variety of applications.

The basic 10mm Automatic round is a standard full metal jacket bullet: A soft metal core surrounded by a jacket made from tougher metal. This allows for higher muzzle velocities and greater damage, as well as increased performance against armor. The increased damage is reduced somewhat by the fact that the metal jacket limits the expansion, resulting in less kinetic energy transferred to the target.
